The celebrated first recording in the series that presents a hypothetical reconstruction of the music of ancient Imperial Rome using original instruments constructed by musician and musicologist Walter Maioli and his research group.
This first volume, dedicated to flutes and various wind instruments, has been highly acclaimed in the international press. Extensive reportage on, and documentaries about this production have been made by several national television companies in Europe and Japan, as well as by CNN International.

Produced in collaboration with the Museo della Civiltà Romana in Rome and recognized by the academic world for its authenticity, this fascinating project is excellently performed by the ensemble Synaulia, a group of paleorganologists and musicians dedicated to the study of ancient music.

This first volume of "The Music of Ancient Rome" has been an international cultural event, registering significant sales in traditional record retail stores as well as in alternative distribution channels such as bookshops and museum stores. Its music has been feataured in numerous feature films, including "Gladiator" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream".

Volume Two (ARCD 0302-IT, ARCD 1002-ENG), dedicated to string instruments, is available, and Volume Three is planned for 2005 release.
