PAUL BADURA-SKODA

Paul Badura-Skoda was born in Vienna in 1927. His piano idols were Edwin Fischer and Alfred Cortot, his inspiration the great directors Wilhelm Furtwängler and Hans Knappertsbusch, his great encounters Herbert von Karajan, Joseph Krips and David Oistrach, with whom he played, more-over, in Vienna, Salsburg, Paris and Moscow, and especially Frank Martin, who dedicated two of his slow pieces of work to him.

Paul Badura-Skoda considers the live transmission of the musical masterpieces a true task and purpose in the spirit of the composers.
For that purpose, he dedicated not only his musical talent, but also his "free time" which he constantly dedicates to research.

He is considered an international authority on texts, he studied hundreds of original manuscripts and editions, of which he has extensive photographic records.
The result of these studies were numerous editions of original texts, articles and books on the interpretation of Bach and Mozart.

Paul Badura-Skoda occasionally composes, but considers his work only to be "a piece of craftsmanship".
His cadenzas for piano concerts and his reconstructions of Schubert's unfinished sonatas are still of high level.
