ANTONIO BRESCHI

Antonio Breschi was born in Florence in 1950 and began studying the piano at the age of three. After earning his diploma at the Luigi Cherubini conservatory he underwent an intense period of teaching and experimentation, described in his book "Ecology: Let's Save Music Too".

At the same time he devoted himself to research in the field of ethnic music, contributing to the birth of various musical groups and cultural centres, such as the "Firenze Jazz" association (1966) the group "Wiskey Trail" (1975) and the centre "La Radice" (1981).

For the past ten years he has dedicated himself principally to the composition and performance of his own music. His pieces appear on various musical anthologies including "The Virgin Guide to New Music" by John Schafer. In terms of style, his work lies somewhere in between "New Classical Music", "World Music" and "New Age".

His concerts were in the Theatre "Mercat de flors", Barcelona; the Opera Theatre "Arriaga", Bilbao; the Theatre "Victoria Eugenia", S. Sebastian; the "Teatro romano", Verona; the Theatres La Cigale, Cirque d'Hiver, Paris; the Intrenational Jazz Festival, Poland; the National Gallery, Dublin; the Queen Festival, Belfast, the Volkshaus, Zurich; the Lubjana Theatre; and the Folk Festival, Lugano. He has played in concert with Andy Irvine and Dollar Brand at the International Jazz Festival of Kalish in Poland, with Jaques Higelin and Manu Dibango in his "Al Kamar" show in Paris, with Benito Lertxundi in Madrid and Oiartzun, and with the African singer Ismael Lo in Milan with whom he received the joint award for "Dialogue with the Far Shore of the Mediterranean", from the Milan city council.
