ALDA MERINI

Alda Merini was born in Milan in 1931 and while very young debuted in literary circles under the guidance of G. Spagnoletti and G. Manganelli. Today she is one of the most representative poets of Italy.

In 1993 she was awarded with the "Eugenio Montale" Librex-Guggenheim Award for poetry. With "La Pazza della Porta Accanto" (The mad Woman next Door) she won the Latina Award in 1995 and was one of the finalists for the Rapallo Award in 1996. With "Ballate Non Pagate" (Unpaid Ballads) she won the Viareggio award in 1996.
